Luxembourg, 1st July - MoMAGIC has become the first Indian IoT platform – and the second one globally - to reach an agreement that will allow its customers to choose to get streamlined access to the standard essential patents (SEPs) underpinning LTE-M and NB-IoT technology offered through the Sisvel Cellular IoT patent pool.

Under the terms of the deal, IoT device makers who source modules from the Delhi-based company can obtain a one-stop licence for their end-products to SEPs owned by the 35 world class innovators who participate in the Sisvel pool. Taking such a licence will deliver significant peace of mind to businesses and reduce their legal risk, freeing them up to focus on growing operations inside India and beyond.

To ensure the continued roll-out of groundbreaking products in multiple verticals, including smart-energy, smart-cities and asset-tracking, predictability and transparency in access to - and cost of - SEP licensing are vital. MoMAGIC can now offer its customers both.

The deal comes at an important time, as India is doubling down on plans to reach a target of installing 250 million smart meters by 2027. Many of these are expected to be manufactured domestically. This roll-out is a crucial part of India’s drive to modernise its energy infrastructure. A licence to the patents offered via Sisvel’s Cellular IoT patent pool forms a key part of ensuring a smooth deployment of many of these devices.
