Welcome to the latest edition of the Sisvel Insights weekly round-up, aggregating news stories, analyses and data points affecting the SEP world that have caught our eye over the past seven days

Last week, in a suit launched against Xiaomi over alleged infringement of patents declared essential to the LTE-Advanced standard, Sun Patent Trust reportedly became the first SEP holder to ask France’s Tribunal Judiciaire de Paris to make a global FRAND determination. The patent owner has argued that the court is the proper venue because ETSI is based in France and the ETSI FRAND pledge is a matter of French law.

Elsewhere, there was praise for the Sisvel Cellular IoT patent pool from Nordic Semiconductor in an IAM interview and a senior member of the Nokia licensing team suggested ways in which the EU’s proposed SEP regulation could be improved. There was news, too, about the launch of a lithium-ion battery patent pool. And there was plenty more besides.

Please note that inclusion of a piece in the list below does not signify agreement with what is stated in the linked article, just that we believe it is of interest and worth pointing out.
