Last week saw major news from the transactions market as Fortress Investment Group affiliates were reported to have scooped up thousands of 4G/5G patents from Shanghai Langbo. For the Chinese lab, the move is part of a push to monetise assets generated through years of R&D investment in the cellular space. The transaction also signals strong interest in SEP licensing from Fortress, long one of the IP market’s heavy hitters.
Elsewhere, Philips and Vivo called time on a lengthy dispute over cellular SEPs that involved five years of litigation in India. In the United States, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey caused a stir when his call to “delete all IP law” received support from White House Senior Advisor Elon Musk. Meanwhile, Sisvel’s Hong Kong team published a dispatch from IAM’s SEP Summit Asia, where speakers predicted Chinese courts will see major FRAND action in 2025.
