About WSS

Widescreen Signaling (WSS) describes the system and the signal that can be used by television receivers for identifying the image format of an analogue television signal and adapting it to the screen. The WSS feature is marketed under several names including: Auto(matic) (Picture) Format, Auto(matic) Zoom (Switching), Auto(matic) Wide (Mode) and Auto(matic) Aspect Ratio (Control).

The WSS patents licensed by Sisvel were owned by the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) and by Bräu Verwaltungsgesellschaft m.b.H., (Brau).
