Netgear becomes the latest licensee of the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool
Luxembourg, January 4, 2025 -- US computer networking company Netgear has taken a Wi-Fi 6 pool licence from Sisvel, Europe’s largest and longest-established patent pool operator.
The agreement resolves all Wi-Fi-related litigation between Netgear and Huawei, a licensor in the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool.
The Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 programme offers a one-stop licence to over 200 patent families recognised by certified independent evaluators as essential to the 802.11ax standard. As well as Huawei, other participating patent owners include Mediatek Inc., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Orange S.A., Panasonic Holdings Corporation, Koninklijke Philips N.V., SK Telecom Co., Ltd. and Wilus Inc. All have played key roles in the development of this ubiquitous and fundamental technology.
Netgear is the latest addition to a list of over 20 companies that are licensees to the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool. In August, computer hardware and electronics company Acer also signed up. The programme’s momentum indicates strong market acceptance of its fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.
All the patent owners in the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool are firmly committed to protecting their respective IP, but they also participate in the programme because they strongly believe in its ability to offer transparent, efficient licensing options that power innovation. The agreement with Netgear is another validation of that value proposition.
