Luxembourg, 12 March 2025 - Panasonic Holdings Corporation ("Panasonic") has taken a licence to the patents contained in the AV1 pool created and managed by Sisvel, Europe’s biggest and longest-established patent pool operator. The deal covers the sale and distribution of Panasonic's AV1 enabled products.

The AV1 format was designed to make online video streaming more efficient. Its adoption is increasing across the consumer electronic market, delivering significant value in the video coding landscape with compression efficiency and enhanced video quality.

Sisvel’s AV1 programme contains patents held by 20 world-class innovators in the field and simplifies access to AV1 technology by providing a one stop licensing solution for companies seeking to implement it. Panasonic becomes the latest in a string of companies to recognise how this streamlined approach enhances efficiency.

Sisvel and Panasonic have cooperated for a number of years in various licensing pools,” says Sisvel’s AV1 programme manager Valentina Piola. “We are delighted that Panasonic has now concluded an agreement that reflects the value of the patents licensed under our AV1 programme.”
