Wifi 6
Enhancements for High-Efficiency Wireless LAN Specifications
Introduction
Even before its official publication by IEEE, the 802.11ax (“Wi-Fi 6”) Standard has become pervasive in the market by bringing wireless connectivity to a whole new level. Increased average throughput per user - the standard itself talks about a fourfold rise - and a higher number of concurrent users in high density scenarios (e.g., offices, campuses, airports, stadiums, etc.) are among its main benefits when compared to Wi-Fi 5.
Additional information about Wi-Fi 6's technological advances and how the standard enhances and enables existing and new applications can be found on Sisvel’s blog.
The licensing of Wi-Fi 6 SEPs
Sisvel’s Wi-Fi 6 Patent Pool offers a one-stop shop solution to license all standard essential patents owned or controlled by the participating patent owners. These include some of the most active participants and technical contributors to the Wi-Fi 6 standardisation process.
What about the 802.11ax and FRAND licensing? All participating patent owners have submitted a negative LoA with respect to the IEEE 2015 updated IPR Policy and/or are committed to license on FRAND terms, in adherence with the IEEE IPR Policy in effect prior to March 15, 2015.
Licensees of Sisvel’s Wi-Fi 6 Patent Pool will have the option to adopt the Licensing Incentive Framework for Technologies (LIFT). This is a new royalty scheme created by Sisvel.
Sisvel is committed to creating licensing terms that work for patent owners and technology implementers; ones that help shorten technology time to market, accelerate market penetration and level the playing field. LIFT is just the latest example of this commitment. More details can be found here and on Sisvel’s blog.

Patents
Sisvel has the right to grant licences to all Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents owned or controlled by the participating patent owners.
All patent families included in the Sisvel’s Wi-Fi 6 pool undergo an essentiality evaluation from certified independent evaluators. You find an overview of the Wi-Fi6 pool's portfolio in our Patent Brochure.
The table in the Patent Brochure allows interested parties to understand how the SEPs offered under this licence are utilised by products complying with the 802.11ax Standard and, to this end, indicates the relevant sections of the standard. This document is regularly updated.
Licence Terms
The royalty rates of this licence are offered on a per product basis, applicable only for devices making use of Wi-Fi 6 technology, as per the below:
For Enterprise Access Points*
Compliant Rate | USD 3.00 |
Standard Rate | USD 3.60 |
*Access points with enterprise grade performance, which provide wireless connectivity for devices and are intended and marketed for professional, business or commercial use in high density environments. More details can be found in the template Sublicense Agreement linked below.
For all other products
Compliant Rate | USD 0.50 |
Standard Rate | USD 0.60 |
